
The Team:
The Acute Care Team (ACT) works intensively in the community with people experiencing mental ill-health, and their families and supports. ACT may be the first point of contact in mental health services providing assessment and care to individuals who have not previously been seen by mental health services. Care is recovery-oriented and trauma-informed, designed to support people to regain their mental health and wellbeing. ACT provides an extended hours service seven days a week, 8:30am to 10:00pm.
The Role:
Provides assertive community-based mental health care to consumers, including triage, comprehensive mental health assessments, assertive short-term care coordination, safety planning, and ongoing psychotherapeutic work using a range of modalities and techniques, transfer of care and discharge planning, in collaboration with consumers, families and carers, within a multi-disciplinary team.
You will need:
- Current knowledge and experience in, and the ability to apply nursing principles and procedures in, the delivery of consumer care in acute adult mental health in line with legal requirements and relevant competency standards for the Registered Nurse, including understanding of relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act 2013.
- Knowledge and understanding of the psychosocial and health needs of consumers and their application to nursing practice in the acute adult mental health setting, including an understanding of the principles of maintaining appropriate therapeutic relationships with consumers.
Sound knowledge and understanding of psychotropic drugs, actions, and side effects

Details of appointment:
Permanent, part time, shift worker position, working 64 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439- $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

- Possess, or be working towards, a specialist tertiary graduate or postgraduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification
