We are seeking applicants who are passionate about pursuing General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Training for 2027.
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest hospital in Tasmania with approximately 500 beds. It is the state-wide referral centre for numerous tertiary services for Tasmania and an accredited Level 3 teaching hospital, as well as the community hospital for the Greater Hobart Region. The hospital offers wide variety of medical and surgical subspecialties including cardiothoracic and neurosurgery and has the full range of diagnostic services available. There is provision of sub-specialty advice and support, and 20 bed intensive care unit (ICU) support.
The Department of General and Acute Care Medicine is the largest inpatient medical unit at the RHH. We have on average 60-90 inpatients, and admit approximately 15 to 20 per day spread across 5 Acute Medical teams including a Rapid Assessment Medical Unit (RAMU) and another unit based in the Emergency Medicine Department.
Presently the department has a mix of full time and part time Staff Specialists, many of whom have sub-specialist interests.
The RHH offers an excellent training program with exposure to following rotations in a well-established program. We are able to offer full-time positions in addition to one part-time (0.5FTE) position in General Medicine. The subspecialty units have accredited advanced training registrars in their discipline as well.

The Advanced Training program at the Royal Hobart Hospital has been developed for trainees to have access to subspecialties that meet all core training requirements including 12 months of core training in General Medicine and 6-12 months core subspecialty terms. We are accredited for 24 months core and 12 months of non-core training at our site. Trainees are offered 1 year contract initially with the potential to extend to 2-3 years.
Several positions are available commencing beginning of February 2027 for trainees entering Advanced Training or continuing training from other hospitals.
