Job description:

In this role, you will prepare and produce meals for all clients and staff at relevant sites and satellite divisions, ensuring confidentiality and assisting with the cleaning of the facility and its equipment, in accordance with Agency policies, guidelines and food safety legislation.

Within this environment, the Food Services Department plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and recovery of patients by ensuring high‑quality, safe, and nutritious meals are prepared and delivered daily.
 
As part of this team, Food Service Assistants contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of hospital food services through meal preparation, tray assembly, distribution, and maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards. Working closely with clinical, hospitality, and support teams, Food Service Assistants help ensure every patient receives the right meal at the right time, aligning with dietary requirements and promoting positive health outcomes.

The Role

You will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of meals for patients, residents, staff and community clients within a healthcare setting, ensuring all food is produced in accordance with standard recipes, special dietary requirements, and food safety legislation. Working under the direction of the Food Services Supervisor, the role maintains high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and workplace safety, operates kitchen equipment safely, completes required food safety documentation, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives, while supporting overall kitchen operations and ensuring efficient, reliable delivery of daily food services.
 
Applicants need to have Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30821 or greater). 

You will need

  • Thorough knowledge and experience in large-scale food preparation, production and cooking operations, including a demonstrated knowledge and the ability to comply with Food Safety Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and understand the importance of a high standard of personal cleanliness, hygiene and punctuality.
  • Effective communication skills including the proven ability to understand both written and verbal instructions, liaise with other personnel within the department and resolve operational problems that may arise in the daily performance of duties.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$76,849 to $82,996 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Plus 25% Casual Loading - Equivalent of $48.42 to $52.30 per hour

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.
