
The Team
The team supporting the Communications Officer role is a collaborative and responsive group focused on delivering clear, accurate, and timely communication across the Department. It includes communications professionals and stakeholders who work together to support public messaging, media engagement, and internal communications.
The team values professionalism, clarity, and adaptability, ensuring information is effectively shared to support informed communities and organisational objectives across Tasmania.
The Role
- Provide quality communication services for internal and external calls, utilising a Unified Attendant Switchboard Console, online directory, reception and rostering to ensure a high level of customer service.
- Monitor the communication, alarm and duress systems throughout the hospital. Liaise with security regarding duress alarms, security screening and site access on a 24 hour basis.
- Provide a front reception service responding to all patient, public and staff enquiries and the maintenance of departmental room keys and other equipment requirements.
You will need
- Thorough knowledge, or demonstrated capacity to gain that knowledge, of the operations of a large intelligent network and attendant console.
- Sound knowledge of, or ability to acquire the knowledge of, the communication network and support services.
- Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively at all levels, both individually and within a team environment, and to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and confidentiality with enquiries from external and internal clients.

Details of appointment
Multiple permanent full time and part time, day worker and shift worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$68,854 to $73,947 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.
