Job description:

Lead workforce strategy monitoring, build key partnerships, and drive evidence-based insights to shape health system outcomes.

The Team:

The Workforce Strategy and Planning Unit (WSPU) provides statewide leadership in cross‑sectoral health workforce strategy, policy and planning, to build a sustainable, skilled and future‑ready workforce for Tasmania. The Unit delivers integrated, evidence‑based workforce planning aligned with service and infrastructure planning, leads implementation and monitoring of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan (WSSP), and ensures alignment with national workforce reforms and priorities.

The WSSP Monitoring and Oversight Team coordinates the implementation, monitoring and governance of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan, ensuring system‑wide alignment, effective stakeholder engagement, and data‑informed tracking of progress while supporting targeted workforce planning and sustainable change across the health system.

The Role:

This position leads the development and continuous improvement of monitoring, evaluation and oversight arrangements for the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan (WSSP), supporting transparent and evidence‑informed decision‑making. It designs and manages monitoring frameworks, governance structures and performance metrics, providing high‑level analysis of progress, risks and system impacts for senior leaders and government. Working closely with the Workforce Planning Team and stakeholders across the system, the position ensures monitoring insights inform workforce planning and strategy refresh activities, strengthen alignment with system priorities, and build organisational capability in monitoring and evaluation.

You will need to:

  • Design and manage the monitoring and evaluation framework for the Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan (WSSP), including metrics, indicators, review cycles, data sources and reporting outputs.
  • Design governance structures and processes that reflect the distributed governance model for the WSSP for endorsement through governance and operationalise approved arrangements by establishing escalation pathways and reporting mechanisms that provide visibility of progress, risks and opportunities, and enable timely collaboration and intervention.
  • Conduct high‑level analysis integrating performance data, stakeholder insights and system intelligence to assess progress of the WSSP, identify barriers and recommend corrective or adaptive actions.
