Job description:

Provide specialist mental health triage and clinical leadership within Access Mental Health.

Please note this position is also being advertised as an Allied Health Professional - Triage Acute Care Stream (534009) and only one position will be filled on merit.

Please note this position is eligible for a Multi-Disciplinary Allowance.

The Team:

Access Mental Health is Tasmania’s statewide 24/7 entry point to public mental health services, providing triage, assessment, and referral. As part of the Department of Health, the team connects consumers, families, and referrers to appropriate care across community, acute, and emergency services.

Working in a multidisciplinary environment, Access Mental Health collaborates with healthcare providers and community partners to deliver timely, coordinated, and person-centred support, improving access and outcomes for the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

  • Responsible for the initial assessment and triage of all office hours contacts and referrals to the ACS to determine the nature, and appropriateness of the same, formulate an initial service response and set priorities for management.
  • Deliver assertive, comprehensive community-based mental health triage services, this includes conducting comprehensive initial assessments, mental state examinations, risk assessments, formulating initial management plans, delivering brief psychotherapeutic interventions, psychoeducation and facilitating appropriate, timely ongoing internal and external referrals as required.
  • Proactively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and deliver comprehensive and effective handovers of all referrals to the ACS, CCS and, as required, Child Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and Older Persons Mental Health Services (OPMHS) streams. 

You will need

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality mental health care in an acute community mental health setting with a particular focus on triage assessments, risk assessments, brief psychological interventions and developing initial management plans.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience working in a community mental health setting in an autonomous role and as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant philosophies, such as trauma informed care and recovery principles, policies and procedures and associated legislation which impact upon the community based setting.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary:

$109,767 to $115,813 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2025.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom. 

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Holds, or is working towards, relevant postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
