Job description:

Lead ambulance and patient transport services across Northern Tasmania, driving exceptional care, performance and community outcomes.

 

The Team

The Director Operations - North leads a highly skilled workforce delivering frontline ambulance and non-emergency patient transport services across Northern Tasmania. Operating in a complex and fast-paced environment, the team provides safe, responsive and high-quality care to the community while supporting strategic priorities through strong operational leadership, service coordination and performance management.

Working closely with health providers, emergency services, government agencies and local communities, the team ensures effective service delivery across urban, regional and remote areas. A culture of professionalism, accountability and respect underpins a strong commitment to staff wellbeing, workforce development, safety and continuous improvement, supporting Ambulance Tasmania's mission to improve health outcomes for Tasmanians.

The Role

Based in Launceston, this senior role is responsible for leading the delivery of ambulance and non-emergency patient transport services across Northern Tasmania, ensuring high-quality patient care, strong operational performance, and effective stewardship of financial, workforce and physical resources.

Reporting to the Executive Director Operations, the Director provides strategic and operational leadership to regional services, drives performance improvement initiatives, oversees emergency management and business continuity planning, and contributes to organisation-wide planning and statewide portfolio responsibilities. The role requires a collaborative leader who can build strong partnerships across health, emergency services and community stakeholders while fostering a positive, safe and high-performing workplace culture.

You will need

  • Demonstrated strategic, operational, and people leadership capability, with a commitment to staff development, safety, and delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Strong experience in managing human and financial resources and assets, and competing priorities in a dynamic, high‑pressure environment,
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, monitor and drive operational, clinical and performance standards, using data and insights to support continuous improvement and service excellence.

Details of appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, with on-call requirements.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$178,112 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Ambulance Tasmania Agreement 2022

Salary Packaging 

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Paramedicine Board of Australia
  • Holds a Bachelor of Paramedic Science or other qualification approved by the Service and relevant work experience with an additional qualification in management or equivalent
  • Current Driver’s Licence

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in management or significant progress towards completion of a management qualification.
