Job description:

Provide specialist perinatal mental health assessment, care and support to women, infants and families, while leading service improvements within a multidisciplinary team.

This position is for a Clinical Nurse Consultant - Perinatal Mental Health (520632L1). The position is also being advertised as an Allied Health Professional - Perinatal Mental Health Clinician (520632d). The position will be filled on a merit basis.

The Team

The team supporting the Clinical Nurse Consultant role is a multidisciplinary, compassionate group focused on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of parents and families during the perinatal period. It includes clinicians, midwives, and allied health professionals working collaboratively to deliver holistic, patient-centred care.

The team emphasises empathy, collaboration, and evidence-based practice, ensuring timely support, early intervention, and improved outcomes for families across Tasmania.

The Role

The Clinical Nurse Consultant – Perinatal Mental Health (Clinical Nurse Consultant) is a member of the multidisciplinary Perinatal Mental Health Team based in Adult Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS). As a senior member of the perinatal service, the Clinical Nurse Consultant will:

  • Assist in providing specialist care to women, infants and their families within their designated region identified as at risk of, or having, moderate to severe perinatal mental health disorders, as part of a Tasmanian multidisciplinary perinatal mental health team.
  • Provide specialist mental health assessment and clinical management to women in the perinatal period to promote positive maternal mental health and enhance the parent-infant relationship.
  • Work in accordance with shared care principles and within a multidisciplinary treatment team to assist women’s access to specialist services and enhance their engagement with internal and external agencies.
  • Take a lead role in the development and implementation of system changes and service improvements in the Perinatal Mental Health Team (PMHS).

You will need

  • Provide an identified first point of contact with the PMHS team for receipt of enquiries regarding management advice or referral to the team.
  • Review and triage referrals received and prioritise allocation of assessment appointments according to patient need.
  • Coordinate the care of women referred for assessment and treatment in collaboration with the Perinatal Psychiatrist and the PMHS.

Details of appointment

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2027.

Salary

$118,297 to $125,543per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: (edit and delete as required)

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria (Delete if not applicable).

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Experience working in an Adult or Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service or a Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service.
  • Further education in perinatal or infant mental health, or counselling.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
