The Role
In collaboration with other staff within the Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Service, relevant staff engaged by the Department of Health and other psychiatrists and mental health professionals across Statewide and Mental Health Services, provide a statewide psychiatric service to Tasmanians with intellectual disability and mental illness with a particular focus on individuals who are being treated under relevant provisions of the 2013 Tasmanian Mental Health Act This includes:
- Acting as a consultant to mental health and medical professionals, health service providers including GP’s and other relevant community sector services concerning the assessment and management of individuals with intellectual disability and mental illness.
- Undertakes supervisory responsibilities with a psychiatric registrar and other medical staff as required and appropriate.
- Actively pursues improved outcomes for patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to psychiatry.

You will need
Provision of specialised psychiatric assessment and treatment to Tasmanians with dual disability in collaboration with a range of other stakeholders who are also involved in providing care and treatment.
- Maintain a strong working relation with the Mental Health Tribunal with a particular focus on ensuring adherence to the relevant provisions of the 2013 Tasmanian Mental Health Act specific to individuals with dual disability
- Act as a consultant for and provide clinical leadership to other staff within the Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Service.
- Provide a dual disability focussed consultation and liaison service to the wider mental health service and sector as required.
- Participate in continuing professional development.

Details of appointment
Permanent full time, day worker position, with on-call roster as and when required, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum.
- Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
- Professional development and accelerated pathways.
- A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
- Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.

- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality
