
The Team
Cardiac Physiologists at the Royal Hobart Hospital enjoy a collaborative environment, working within a supportive multi-disciplinary team. As well as echocardiography, members of the Cardiac Physiologist team specialise in rhythm management including cardiac device management, and electrophysiology and there is opportunity to work within more than one of these disciplines.
Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit within the RHH is the tertiary referral centre for all cardiothoracic surgery in Tasmania.
The Role
You will perform high-quality trans-thoracic echocardiograms in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. You will liaise closely with other members of our multi-disciplinary team to support best practice care of our patients. You will find our practice exposes you to a wide range of pathophysiology in adult echocardiography, including structural heart, intensive care and cardiothoracic surgical patients. There is also opportunity to be involved in paediatric, adult congenital and exercise echocardiography. We operate an after-hours on-call service.
You will need
- Significant experience as a Cardiac Physiologist in the field of echocardiography with a sound knowledge of cardiac physiology including cardiovascular haemodynamics and rhythm interpretation.
- Proven commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to supervise and educate other health professionals and students and a continuing contribution to knowledge in the field of echocardiography.
- You will have ASAR accreditation in cardiac ultrasound or be eligible for ASAR accreditation.

Details of appointment
Permanent part time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 48 hours per fortnight, commencing 26 October 2026.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$117,272 to $126,182 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
Allowances
- Please note that access to salaries beyond $123,487 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1200 per annum, paid on a fortnightly, pro rata basis.

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of *study at a recognised tertiary institution, and registered with the relevant Board or, in the case of unregulated professions, eligible for membership of the relevant professional association.
*Undergraduate or post-graduate tertiary qualification in Echocardiography.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Eligibility for accreditation in Australia by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR)
- Experience in paediatric echocardiography
- At least 3 years postgraduate experience
- Current Driver’s Licence
