The Team
Internal Audit is a unit of the Department of Health that sits within the Office of the Chief Risk Officer (OCRO). The unit’s role is to help the Department achieve its objectives by assessing whether governance, risk management and internal control arrangements are effective, efficient and fit for purpose. W examine the internal systems, processes and behaviours that should support the delivery of safe, sustainable and high-quality health services for the Tasmanian community.
Internal Audit works across a range of organisational and operational risks, from clinical and corporate governance to financial management, workforce capability, information systems, integrity, major projects and emerging strategic challenges. We make recommendations on how to controls can be strengthened, organisational performance can be improved, accountability enhanced and decision-making informed appropriately.
While structurally the team sits within the Office of the Chief Risk Officer, it function operates independently of management and is accountable to the Department's Audit and Risk Committee and the Secretary. This enables Internal Audit to provide trusted assurance and insights to senior leaders, helping management respond to current risks while building capability and resilience for the future.
