Job description:

Deliver sustainable economic benefits by leading the provision of support and assistance to advanced manufacturing, defence industry and related enterprises to maximise employment, investment and growth outcomes. This will be achieved through successful implementation and delivery of the Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industry policies and initiatives and in accordance with the Government’s economic objectives, with responsibility for the south of the state.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a permanent flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight).

Duties

  • Assist to implement the Tasmanian Advanced Manufacturing Action Plan actions and associated initiatives and strategies, including the Tasmanian Defence Industry Strategy. This will include leading on the development and delivery of projects, programs and other discrete activities. The position will be responsible for service delivery to the advanced manufacturing and defence sector in the south of Tasmania.
  • Ensure a high level of industry and client engagement and strategic advice on the advanced manufacturing sector be able to provide accurate and timely advice to government.
  • Proactively initiate and formulate advice and policy/strategic input on the advanced manufacturing sector in the development, implementation and review of strategies, policies, programs, plans and projects.
  • Build a portfolio of clients and maintain high level professional business relationships working directly with the owners and managers of these businesses and other key stakeholders to identify and analyse opportunities or issues at the enterprise and/or industry level.
  • Assess the business needs of advanced manufacturing clients, assisting them to develop strategies to maximise employment, investment and growth outcomes. This may include encouraging and facilitating access to government and private sector programs and services that address identified client needs such as access to skilled services, financial assistance and provision of business counselling and facilitation services.
  • Work in partnership with Department of State Growth business units, as well as relevant agencies across the state and federal levels, to ensure the effective referral of client needs and implementation of programs, processes and management systems in a streamlined and client centric way.
  • Prepare a diverse range of written documentation including correspondence, ministerial responses, briefing notes, board papers and reports as required.
  • Provide leadership and positive engagement across the team to help build and maintain a supportive and high performing team environment that reflects the department’s values.  This may include direct supervision of staff within the AMDI team on a project or ongoing basis.

Desirable Requirements

  • A current drivers licence.
  • Relevant tertiary or industry recognised qualifications and/or professional affiliations.

Intrastate and interstate travel may be required.
