Job description:

Join the Tasmanian Audit Office as a financial specialist supporting internal financial and performance reporting, forecasting and budget management. To succeed in this role, you will have strong attention to detail, good judgement and high integrity, with a high level of expertise in financial accounting and reporting. You will be a good communicator, with the ability to work in a cross functional corporate support team.

Join the Tasmanian Audit Office as a finance and data specialist overseeing the Office's financial and business systems, and managing the Office’s budget, financial and performance reporting, and data analytics for audit operations. To succeed in this role, you will have a strong analytical ability and attention to detail, good judgment and integrity, with substantial expertise in accounting, financial management and reporting, and data analytics. You will be a good communicator and report writer with the ability to work in a cross-functional corporate support team.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Develop and analyse financial and business systems and tools to measure performance, monitor compliance, identify and harness business improvement opportunities, and undertake associated reporting.
  • Manage and undertake complex data analysis for financial and performance reporting and benchmarking, including to provide high-level data-driven insights, advice and recommendations.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to support the better use of data and data analytics across the Office, including by leveraging data analytics to support audit operations.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial and business systems, perform account reconciliations and prepare various financial and business reports, including for the Office’s Executive.
  • Oversee the Office’s annual financial statements preparation and external audit function, ensuring compliance with relevant professional standards and requirements.
  • Oversee and manage the external and internal budget and associated process and reporting, including for budget appropriation management and Budget Estimates.
  • Act as the key contact with Service Level Agreement providers and the Department of Treasury and Finance in relation to financial and budget systems and delivery of key outputs, exercising initiative and judgement.
  • Develop, review and maintain the Office’s Finance Manual and associated policies and procedures to ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Represent the Office on internal and external committees and participate in relevant industry forums, reporting outcomes back to the Office as required along with the provision of recommendations to the Office’s Executive.
  • The occupant of this position can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Performance is measured against Key Performance Indicators that are developed and agreed to for each role in the Office and documented in annual Performance Plans.

Pre-employment Checks

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following; Arson and fire setting; Violent crimes and crimes against the person; Sex-related offences; Drug and alcohol related offences; Crimes involving dishonesty; Crimes involving deception; Making false declarations; Malicious damage and destruction to property; Serious traffic offences; Crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice; Crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power; Crimes involving Conspiracy.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
  3. Identification check.

Desirable Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, business, accounting or other relevant discipline.
  • 3 or more years’ experience in data analytics, business intelligence or related roles.
  • Relevant experience in a government environment or familiarity with government processes and protocols.
  • Experience with TechnologyOne products, or similar systems with a strong focus on financial modules. Advanced proficiency in Excel, along with experience in data visualization, analytics and business intelligence tools such as Power BI.
