Duties
The Director – key result areas include:
- Providing strategic advice to the Premier, relevant portfolio Ministers and the Cabinet on significant issues and reform relating to the Premier’s and the Government’s priority to implement the recommendations Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings (Commission of Inquiry) and aligned recommendations and activity.
- Leading, driving and coordinating the delivery and development of the whole-of-government response to keep children safe, across portfolios and agencies, that will have critical impact on both Government policy and priorities and meeting the Department’s objectives. The Tasmanian Government’s response will involve major cross-agency effort and collaboration.
- Managing and resolving urgent and immediate priority issues and structural reform for the Premier as they arise, in particular for matters relating to Commission of Inquiry recommendations and other aligned recommendations.
- Leading and supporting outcomes and reforms at a state level. Representing the state at national reform meetings.
- Undertake sensitive and complex negotiations at senior executive levels with agencies of the Tasmanian and other governments, including, where necessary, working with advisers from Ministerial offices.
- Working collaboratively with agencies to deliver the Premier’s and the Government’s priority of Keeping Children Safer and implementing all of the Commission of Inquiry’s recommendations.
- Supporting Tasmanian Government agencies in delivering outcomes and reforms, including alignment with Tasmania’s priorities and processes for implementing the Commission’s recommendations.
- Providing whole-of-government advice to the Premier and the Cabinet about a broad range of issues relating to the Government and impacts on Tasmanian Government priorities, policies and services;
- Leading and supporting the development and implementation of designated whole-of-government policies, process and projects, and the delivery of departmental priorities, as required.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable people who may be associated with or located at the worksite (including children and young people) and immediately report any concerns, disclosures, allegations or suspicions of harm, together with actively participating in and contributing to practices that will ensure the Department is a child safe organisation including reporting, record keeping and information sharing obligations.
