The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, has three newly created positions of Senior Counsel. Two of the positions are located in Hobart with the other position located in Launceston.
These positions provide high legal, policy and strategic advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions in respect of complex, critical, novel and sensitive legal issues, the management of his Office and its relationship with stakeholders. A critical function of the roles will be to act as solicitor and counsel in complex, critical and sensitive summary and criminal proceedings before the Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeals and in matters arising from those proceedings.

Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
Period of Appointment
5 year senior executive appointment - equivalent specialist (senior lawyers).
Remuneration
$221,729 per annum
Duties
- To act as solicitor and counsel in complex, critical and sensitive summary and criminal proceedings before the Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeals and in matters arising from those proceedings.
- Perform the role of a Crown Law Officer in accordance with the policies of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
- To provide high level legal, policy and strategic advice to Director of Public Prosecutions in respect of complex, critical, novel and sensitive legal issues, the management of his Office and its relationships with stakeholders.
- To provide professional supervision and management to all legal practitioners including guiding, mentoring, coaching and performance management.
- To manage relationships with external stakeholders including Tasmania Police, the Courts and other Crown instrumentalities as required.
- To act as counsel in such other matters involving the State and its Agencies as may be directed from time to time by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
- To participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Essential Requirements
- Admitted or qualified and entitled to be admitted as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania with not less than seven years standing as an Australian lawyer.
Desirable Requirements
- Ten years post admission experience preferably in criminal advocacy.
- Current Drivers Licence
