Job description:

The Assistant Director Public Transport Operations will provide oversight, direction and leadership for the delivery of quality public for Tasmania which is attractive to customers. This includes overseeing managing contracts for the supply of regular essential public transport services, the high level planning of routes and infrastructure supports and development of tools and services to improve the customer experience. The role will support the Director Passenger Transport to engage with key stakeholders to improve the profile of public transport as a viable alternative to private travel and for priority access to road infrastructure.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a permanent full-time basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight). 

Duties

  • Manage the human, physical, financial and information resources of the Public Transport work teams.  This will include fostering continued improvement in capability and effectiveness, and identifying opportunities for improving outcomes for the community.
  • Anticipate, identify, analyse and manage emerging issues in the delivery of public transport services. Proactively provide specialist and authoritative advice, solutions and recommendations on complex issues to senior management and relevant staff.
  • Provide support to the Director in leading and managing the Branch.  This will include assisting managing cross team issues, managing change and monitoring team performance to ensure that employees are effectively engaged and motivated in the delivery of high level client services and Branch/Group/Department outcomes.
  • Foster and sustain strategic partnerships across the Transport Services Group, Agency and other government departments and with key stakeholders to understand broader whole of government issues and other factors influencing the delivery of public transport. This includes representing State Growth in relation to public transport matters.
  • Exercise legislative and other delegations, including for the procurement and administration of contracts for the supply of public transport services.
  • Provide high level strategic operational advice to the Department and government stakeholders, Cabinet and Minister in relation to public transport.

Desirable Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience
  • Experience in passenger transport services, policy or planning
