Job description:

This position contributes to the operation of the Tasmania Legal Aid through the provision of general legal advice ranging from basic legal issues to simple processing queries and assisting in the preparation and presentation of community legal education packages.

Hours per fortnight

Part-time, 36.75 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Deliver general legal information and advice to clients in relation to all areas of the law and legal procedures using telephone, face-to-face, online and videoconference communication platforms.
  • Interview clients in our Legal Help Clinic program and facilitate referrals to other services where appropriate.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to senior staff.
  • Undertake specific assignments in accordance with briefings.
  • Prepare and deliver community legal education. 
  • Support Tasmania Legal Aid’s service delivery priorities.
  • Perform other legal work as directed in Tasmania Legal Aid’s practice areas.

Essential Requirements

  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the relevant federal courts.

Desirable Requirements

  • Current Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence.
