Job description:

Undertake environmental regulation activities and contribute to positively impacting Northern Tasmania’s environment and way of life.

About the role

The Senior Environmental Officer will undertake regulation, compliance and management activities in the areas of wastewater, waste, mining, finfish farming, industrial operations or contaminated land, and waste systems.

  • Provide high level policy, professional, and technical advice on a wide range of environmental issues.
  • Manage incidents, complaints, and notifications in respect to environmentally relevant incidents.
  • Undertake inspections and compliance audits of regulated activities.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation). 

Period of appointment

18 months or until the return of substantive occupant, whichever is sooner. 

Desirable requirements

  • A degree or other qualifications in a discipline relevant to the position or demonstrated practical experience in environmental management or regulation at an equivalent level
  • A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
  • Previous experience in incident response, or the ability to acquire skills and knowledge in this area.
