Job description:

To participate in projects associated with the understanding of natural hazards, particularly landslides, with the aim of improving effective land use planning, sustainable infrastructure development, environmental protection, and emergency management within the State.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for two years. 

Duties

• To recognise, interpret, map, and monitor natural hazards within the Tasmanian landscape, particularly landslides.
 
• Enter data into relevant databases and contribute to periodic updating of the state-wide landslide and geomorphological mapping.
 
• Contribute to the production of scientifically sound reports and maps on natural hazards and landscape evolution.

Essential Requirements

• Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of study at a recognised tertiary institution in the fields of geology, geomorphology and engineering-geology.
 
• A current full driver's licence.
 
• Medical examination covering normal stereoscopic, colour vision and physical fitness sufficient for accessing difficult terrain.

Desirable Requirements

• A graduate qualification in the field of engineering-geology, geomorphology or geology with an emphasis on natural hazards.
 
• Professional experience in natural hazards research and consulting, particularly in the area of slope stability.
 
• Proficiency with GIS and other spatial software (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS).
