Job description:

This role is responsible for the strategic oversight of the employment advisory, Industrial Relations, business partnering and human resource policy functions for the department and other entities. These activities have a direct and significant impact on the achievement of the objectives of the department. The role provides high level authoritative and consultative advice to senior managers on complex people and workplace relation matters.

Duties

  • Lead, manage and develop the Employment Advisory Services and Policy team and foster a collaborative and contemporary approach to the provision of high-quality services that are responsive to stakeholder needs, compliant with relevant legislative requirements and support the business objectives, vision and values of the department.
  • Provide authoritative advice, support and case management service on a range of complex and critical people management and workplace relations matters to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including the Director People and Culture, Deputy Secretary Business Services, the Secretary and other senior managers.
  • Analyse data, information and insights to identify human resource trends and opportunities and coach and develop managers to increase their capability to lead people, improve performance, enhance communication and nurture continuous growth.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders, influence and lead the planning, negotiation and implementation of relevant Industrial Agreements, strategies, projects and plans and provide input into State Service-wide Award negotiations.
  • Liaise, consult and negotiate with employee organisations and employee representatives on complex workplace relations matters including termination, grievance resolution and return to work arrangements.
  • Undertake complex research and analysis and prepare high level correspondence, reports, briefings and strategy documents to support recommendations.
  • Develop, implement, review and evaluate contemporary human resource initiatives, policies, programs and services to support business improvement, align with department objectives and meet legislative requirements.
