Job description:
The purpose of this role is to:
• Provide strategic leadership, direction and influence to the development, implementation and evaluation of Agency initiatives, strategies, policies and programs as they relate to people management and capability, employment and organisational development functions;
• Provide high level authoritative and strategic and independent advice with a whole of agency perspective to a broad range of stakeholders; and
• Provide leadership and build functional excellence in the delivery of the People and Culture Branch activities and management of resources.

Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a five-year fixed term basis.
Duties
The Director, People and Culture key result areas include:
- The provision of high-level authoritative advice and support on complex people and culture matters to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including direct advice to the Head of Agency, Deputy Secretary (Business Services), State Growth Executive, Coordinator General, Infrastructure Tasmania and relevant Portfolio Boards and committees.
- Play a key role in the leadership, development and design of the Department and the development and implementation of new approaches and organisation programs.
- Lead, develop and implement strategies and organisational development initiatives that build on the capability of a diverse workforce, with a particular emphasis on workforce planning, management capability, and a high performing client focussed culture. Enable leaders of the organisation to engage and manage the workforce to achieve business outcomes.
- Together with the State Growth Executive, undertake a key leadership and influencing role to lead the culture and values for the department.
- Provide a key advisory and leadership role in the development and implementation of change initiatives to build an adaptive, change ready culture including the delivery of a Workforce Development Plan and organisational initiatives for the Department.
- Strategically manage relationships with relevant stakeholder groups including a high level advisory and consultancy service to internal stakeholders.
- Provide direct advice to the Deputy Secretary, Business Services on workforce interventions to meet changing demands and client requirements for the Department.
- Lead, manage and develop the People and Culture Branch in fostering a partnership approach to the provision of quality people and culture services and compliance with relevant legislation, awards and directions.
- Play a key role in the development and maintenance of a workplace culture that demonstrates zero tolerance towards violence against women and fosters a culture of respectful relationships with a focus on the wellbeing of employees. This includes managing the Department’s policies against violence and monitoring ongoing compliance with White Ribbon Australia requirements.
- Represent the Department at whole of government forums on employment matters and people development initiatives directed towards improving whole of service capability.
