Job description:

To support the Art team with the maintenance, management and documentation of the State Collections (Art). Lead the preparation of collection material for installation, display, transport, deinstall and storage. Assist with research and collection object information. Manage both digital and physical filing, cataloguing and collection management of the State Collections (Art). Lead preventative conservation and installation of art objects for display and in storage. Assist with collection audits and art collection storage management.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a  permanent, flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight).

Duties

  • Accession artworks into the collection database, ensuring accurate documentation, location information, text and curatorial descriptions are entered into the system.
  • Coordinate the installation of collection items including locating, safely transporting and installing or hanging, as well as ensuring safe and organised art storage.
  • Assist the curators of Art and Decorative Art in their selection and in the research of objects from the art collection for exhibition, research and loan.
  • Facilitate access to the Art Collection in consultation with curators across all sites.
  • Assist the registrar in managing the storage, transport, packing and location tracking of both collection items and items on loan to and from TMAG.
  • Lead the implementation of conservation and collection management best practice.
  • Coordinate and maintain loans to Ministerial and government offices in close consultation with the relevant curators, registrar and conservators.
  • Under instruction and/or advice from Conservators undertake basic cleaning of Art and Decorative Art collection material on open display, such as furniture, sculpture, frames and display cabinets.

Essential Requirements

The person must continue to satisfy the above essential requirements/qualifications throughout their employment in this role.

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant arts or arts management field.
  • Manual Car Licence

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in a museum and art gallery workplace.
  • Forklift licence or willingness to obtain one.
