The role is accountable to the Agency Executive for the provision of strategic and policy advice to the Minister's Office. The role manages the information, physical and financial resources of WorkSafe Tasmania and provides leadership to managers and staff to meet the operational and strategic outcomess for the Output.

About the role: As the Executive Director, you will manage and lead WorkSafe Tasmania, setting the strategic direction in collaboration with the Deputy Secretary, Regulation and Service Delivery, and the WorkCover Board Tasmania. Your role will be pivotal in delivering core functions, improving operational effectiveness, and fulfilling statutory responsibilities under the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1998, Work Health and Safety Act 2012 and the Asbestos – Related Diseases (occupational exposure) Compensation Act 2011.

Period of Appointment

5 years - Senior Executive appointment

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Ensure the delivery of core functions and the achievement of outcomes described in the WorkSafe Tasmania Strategic and Business Plans.
  • Facilitate improvements of the ongoing capabilities and operational effectiveness of WorkSafe Tasmania.
  • Fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the Regulator under the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, and Competent Authority under Dangerous substances legislation.
  • Manage the delivery of statutory responsibilities of the Asbestos Compensation Commissioner and Secretary to the WorkCover Tasmania Board.
  • Manage the delivery of Tasmania’s workers compensation and Asbestos Compensation schemes.
  • Represent the Agency and the Government on committees and forums and actively participate in various national bodies including SafeWork Australia.
  • Provide high level strategic and policy advice and recommendations to the Deputy Secretary, Regulation and Service Delivery, the Minister, the WorkCover Board, the Asbestos Compensation Commissioner and industry on all relevant matters relating to the regulation and control.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain high-level stakeholder relationships with industry bodies, unions, State and Commonwealth Departments and authorities, related regulators, and other related national and international organisations.
  • As a member of the Department’s senior leadership group, actively contribute to the overall policy development, strategic planning, effective management and future direction of the Agency.
  • Provide policy advice to Government, through the Deputy Secretary, Regulation and Service Delivery, to ensure that the legislation that WorkSafe Tasmania operates within is able to be appropriately administered and keeps pace with the needs and risks of Tasmanian workplaces.

  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline are considered important for this position, together with considerable experience at senior executive level.
