Job description:

Provide a high level of research and analysis and contribute to the development and implementation of policy issues and initiatives relevant to Aboriginal Partnerships in Policy and Reform. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that progress the strategic direction and objectives of the Aboriginal Partnerships in collaboration with government agencies, non-government organisations, business and the community.

Hours per fortnight

73.5 hours - flexible options available.  

Duties

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and society and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with Aboriginal people.
  2. Sound understanding of the political, social and organisation environment in which Aboriginal Partnerships and the Division operates.
  3. Sound knowledge and understanding of policy development and implementation processes.
  4. High-level research, analytical and policy-development skills, including the capacity to think strategically and exercise sound judgment to identify priority issues for attention and develop acceptable solutions within a complex political and organisational environment.
  5. High level written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate and provide authoritative advice and recommendations on complex matters to non-specialists.
  6. Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to persuade others to adopt a particular course of action where there may be conflicting interests. Presentation and negotiating skills and the capacity to represent the department/government in public forums.
  7. Well-developed self-management skills, able to plan, organise and prioritise workload with a commitment to task completion.

Essential Requirements

  • Aboriginality. The State Service Commissioner has determined that this is an Aboriginal identified position and that it will be filled in accordance with the Employment Direction No 10: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment in the Tasmanian State Service.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration. Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment.   It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Desirable Requirements

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or extensive work experience in a related field.
