Job description:

In consultation with the Senior Policy and Projects Officer: • develop policies, practices and guidelines that will contribute to the implementation of Tasmania Legal Aid’s (TLA) Strategic Plan • monitor TLA’s compliance with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2023 and the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024.

Period of Appointment

Fixed Term - until 30 June 2026

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Undertake policy and project work across TLA, including:
    • research, analysis and evaluation of existing policies, practices and guidelines; and provide evidence-based advice/recommendations to improve outcomes and support strategic objectives.
    • provide policy-related advice, solutions, proposals, recommendations and support to the Senior Policy and Projects Officer to ensure compliance with established guidelines and processes.
    • develop and support the implementation of new policies aligned to TLA’s obligations pursuant to the Child Safe Organisations Act 2023 and the Disability Rights, Inclusion and Safeguarding Act 2024.
  • Establish and build productive partnerships with colleagues to identify and negotiate policy related requirements.
  • Develop and maintain effective and productive relationships with relevant stakeholders including other Government agencies and the private and non-Government sector.
  • Prepare high level submissions, ministerial briefings, correspondence and reports including monitoring media coverage and providing advice on media opportunities and/or risks.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and working groups as requested.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of other significant projects as required.
  • Provide outcomes consistent with approved policy, procedures, administrative guidelines and the industrial and/or legislative framework, whilst maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proactively respond to current issues to ensure that TLA is positioned as a Tasmania leader/expert in legislative reform.
  • Perform such other professional duties or projects as required from time to time in accordance with the skills, competence and training of the occupant.

Desirable Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • A current motor vehicle driver’s licence
