Job description:
The General Manager Sport and Operations plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping the strategic direction, operational effectiveness, connectivity, and overall success of the sporting and recreation sectors in Tasmania. The role fosters a vibrant, inclusive, diverse and sustainable sporting environment throughout Tasmania, including grassroots and community participation, talent identification and high performance along with professional representation and content. Reporting directly to the Deputy Secretary, Creative Industries, Sport and Visitor Economy (CSV), the General Manager oversees the coordination and delivery of key strategies, programs, partnerships and services that support the development of the sporting landscape across the state.

Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a fixed term basis for five (5) years.
Duties
- Leads the development of a strategic vision in relation to Sport, including State Government objectives and priorities.
- Develop and implement long-term strategies that align with the vision and goals for sport in Tasmania, increasing participation, enhancing sporting excellence, and ensuring equitable access to sporting opportunities. Aligning strategy and policies in partnership with internal and external stakeholders across state and national bodies.
- Lead high-level discussions and negotiations with state, national, and international sporting bodies, codes, and teams to advance Tasmania's sporting agenda.
- Build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a broad range of key stakeholders to ensure appropriate stakeholder liaison and input for key sporting projects to ensure broad engagement and support.
- Provide timely, accurate and appropriate advice to the Deputy Secretary, Secretary and Ministers on all aspects of sport and partnerships related to sport.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the Sport and Operations teams (including Active Tasmania, the TIS and Professional Sport and Operations), ensuring high performance, professional growth, and alignment with organisational goals. Encourage an inclusive, diverse, positive team culture that values teamwork, collaboration, and community impact.
- Ensure the operational efficiency of the broader CSV Group, including providing support and service delivery in the areas of governance, analysis, policy and legislation, business support, compliance and coordination of CSV inputs into whole of Department tasks.
