Job description:

Deliver the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) Rowing program to support the goals and objectives of the National Performance Pathways Program (NPPP)

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term full time basis for 3 years.  

Duties

  • Deliver a high-performance daily training environment (DTE) for all categorised and non-categorised TIS rowing athletes, embedding Rowing Australia’s technical frameworks and performance strategies.
  • Lead the coaching and development of TIS rowing athletes by delivering training programs, competition planning, and Individual Athlete Learning and Performance Plans (IALPPs) to support progression and performance at benchmark events.
  • Apply contemporary coaching methods and technologies to monitor and enhance athletes’ technical, physical, and mental development, ensuring alignment with Rowing Australia’s categorisation processes.
  • Maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with Rowing Australia’s high performance team to ensure alignment on program delivery, athlete development, and individual coach development plans.
  • Manage the strategic and operational delivery of the TIS rowing program, including annual planning, facility use, performance services, budget oversight, and external consultants.
  • Oversee talent identification and the development of athletes with Olympic and Paralympic potential, ensuring their progression toward national categorisation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across the Tasmanian rowing community, working collaboratively with Rowing Tasmania, clubs, schools, parents, performance staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular communication with national coaches, pathway leads, and state program coaches to support athlete development and inform selection processes.
  • Promote and uphold TIS child safety policies and wellbeing standards, ensuring timely reporting of concerns and active participation in child-safe practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety requirements across all TIS rowing venues, training camps, and activities, contributing to safety planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Requirements

Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:

  • Current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP)
  • National Police Clearance
  • Current First Aid Certificate – level 2
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Current Boat Licence
  • Successful completion of the following Sport Integrity Australia’s Education Modules  
    • National Integrity framework course
    • Anti-Doping Fundamentals course
    • Annual Update
    • Whereabouts Course
    • Competition Manipulation and Sports Gambling Course
    • Safe and Effective Coaching of Young Athletes in High Performance Sport
    • Safeguarding children and young people in Sport Induction

 

The person must continue to satisfy the above essential requirements/qualifications throughout their employment in this role.

Desirable Requirements

  • Coaching certification in Rowing (Level 2) and with other sporting disciplines at national and/or international level would be deemed an advantage.
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge and/or qualification in either sports performance services, sports science, strength & conditioning, performance analysis.
