Job description:

The Regulation and Compliance Officer is part of the Office of the Independent Regulator’s (the Office) Regulation and Compliance Team. Officers play a key role in regulating and monitoring organisations and individuals that provide services to children and young people, through oversight of the Reportable Conduct Scheme. The Office influences and leads change by building capability in organisations to be child safe.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Work collaboratively both within Regulation and Compliance team and the broader Office to provide guidance, oversight and advice for the way in which organisations respond to reportable allegations, including risk assessment, risk management and investigation having regard to quality standards, performance measures and risks.
  • Manage a caseload of diverse matters and liaise and consult with other areas of the Office and a range of external stakeholders to deliver information, guidance, and training.  
  • Apply a strong analytical approach to the assessment of notifications and investigations undertaken by external entities. It is expected that Officers make sound professional judgement and recommendations to the Independent Regulator and Office’s Executive Group regarding appropriate actions and response. 
  • Conduct investigations into organisations under to the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act (2023) including the Reportable Conduct Scheme and actions of organisations in preventing and responding to reportable allegations, as well as public interest monitoring and investigating compliance with Child and Youth Safe Standards.
  • Develop and maintain trusting and productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Regulation and Compliance function within the Office, assist in enhancing the public profile of the Office and supporting the implementation of outreach programs and maintaining effective communication pathways with complainants, notifiers and agencies.
  • Performing other duties as envisaged by the assigned classification under the relevant award and in accordance with the skills, competence and training of the occupant as required.  

Essential Requirements

  • A Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (employment).

Desirable Requirements

  • Current Driver’s licence
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in administrative law or the conduct of investigations.

Pre-employment Checks

  1. Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
  3. Identification check.
