Job description:
Provide effective high-level expertise and support in budget, financial and accounting functions to meet the Department’s financial reporting and budget obligations in accordance with relevant financial management frameworks. Provide critical financial analysis that assists in the formulation and monitoring of budgets, revenues and expenditures at a business unit, divisional and departmental level.
As a specialist member of a service-focussed team, provide day to day coordination and high-level advice and support of the various departmental activities including financial reporting and financial operations, budget development, and Treasury reporting.

Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a Permanent full time flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight)
Duties
- Manage the day-to-day provision of internal budget and accounting support services within the Department, including monitoring the status of the department’s budget, financial analysis, reconciliations and forecasting, and the provision of authoritative budget process and regulatory advice.
- Support the preparation of financial statements, statistical information and returns in accordance with acts administered by the Department including Australian Accounting Standards, Treasurer’s instructions, Financial Management Act 2016 and Audit Act 2008.
- Support the development of department’s State Budget activities including coordinating budget submissions, drafting budget papers, maintaining budget risks, updating of both the department’s internal and Treasury’s Budget Management Systems and provision of monthly reporting to Treasury.
- Prepare and assist with internal reporting and complex financial reconciliations in a timely manner ensuring the Department complies with, and adapts to changes in, relevant taxation legislation and obligations, including the review of and/or completion and lodgement of all statutory returns and reporting to Treasury, and provide oversight of the department’s asset registers.
- Assist with maintaining the department’s financial policies and procedures and assist with the review and implementation of financial projects as they arise, including a focus on continuous improvement.
Desirable Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relative finance discipline or substantial progress towards such a qualification and membership or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body.
