Job description:

Manage the human, physical, financial and information resources of the Northern Industrial Regulation Section of the EPA Industrial Regulation Branch to ensure that the activities that are regulated by the Section are assessed and managed in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 and Government policy. To provide a significant contribution to the overall business planning, development of procedures, effective management and future directions of the Industrial Regulation Branch.

About the role

The Section Manager (Northern Regulation) will manage the human, physical, financial, and information resources of the Northern Industrial Regulation Section, currently a team of eight. 

The Section Manager will also:

  • Work with various industries including renewables (windfarms), metallurgical and chemical processing, wood processing, food processing facilities, manufacturing and mining/ extractive sites.
  • Provide strategic policy and authoritative professional advice on best practice environmental management and regulatory issues.
  • Implement and manage the statutory system for the regulation of environmentally significant matters and activities.
  • Contribute to staff leadership, business planning,  effective management, and future directions of the Branch.

This is a permanent position located in Devonport or Launceston.

  • Has expertise in the scientific and regulatory aspects of environmental management.
  • Can exercise professional judgement in relation to environmentally significant matters.
  • Has management experience and the ability to mentor staff and develop the team.
  • Has a degree or equivalent qualification relevant to the nature of the work to be undertaken.
