Job description:

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) Tasmania is seeking Fishing Engagement Facilitators to join their Wild Fisheries branch.

About the role

As a Fishing Engagement Facilitator, you will provide fisheries education, communication, and engagement activities that promote the sustainable management of Tasmania’s recreational sea fisheries and marine resources.

You will work directly with recreational fishers ranging from beginners to experienced anglers, as well as fishing-related industries and the broader public. You will also deliver informative sessions, coordinating hands-on activities such as fishing clinics, and supporting community outreach to raise awareness of responsible fishing practices. You’ll also:

  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and digital content for social media, websites and promotional campaigns.
  • Assist with engagement activities by supervising volunteers, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with schools, government agencies, and community organisations.
  • Report on activity outcomes and evaluate their impact to shape future engagement strategies to ensure the continued success of sustainable fisheries education across Tasmania.

Hours per fortnight

Hours will vary as and when required.

Period of appointment

12 months.

Essential requirements

  • A current Motor Vehicles drivers’ licence.
  • Registration to “Work with Vulnerable People” as required under the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013.

Desirable requirements

  • Degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in Science, Natural Resource Management, Communications, or other relevant discipline.
