The Coordinator, Work Health and Safety will be working with the Senior Consultant, Work Health and Safety contributing toward the achievement of broader Department of Justice work health and safety strategic objectives. The successful applicant will assist in implementing safety initiatives tailored towards the improvement of work health and safety indicators at the TPS.

This role is a permanent, day work position working 73.50 hours per fortnight.

Salary of $83,011 to $95,547 pa. starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement

Working Environment
Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale.
The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time).
Duties
- Provide general advice on work health and safety matters to the Tasmanian Prison Service (TPS) senior executive, managers and workers.
- Assist with the implementation, promotion and monitoring of the Department of Justice Work Health and Safety Strategic Plan and Safety Management System within the TPS.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders to foster a collective approach, to support continuous improvement in health and safety at the TPS.
- Assist and support the TPS in the implementation of the DoJ safety management system and coordinate tasks for specific registers including asbestos, chemicals, and biological exposures.
- Assist and support the TPS with hazard identification and risk assessments processes including the development and implementation of appropriate controls.
- Assist and support the TPS with incident notifications, investigations and corrective actions processes to support continuous improvement in health and safety.
- Assist the implementation of TPS staff training and educational development as required to support risk management and injury reduction initiatives.
- Assist with the preparation of work health and safety reports, including trends, risks and issues arising from data analytics.
- Coordinate and assist TPS employees with the role of Health and Safety Representative and provide secretariat support to the TPS Health and Safety Committee.
