Job description:
Maintain infrastructure and facilities to ensure the continued enjoyment and accessibility of Mount Field and Southwest National Park

About the role
As a Field Officer, you’ll carry out work to maintain the field centre infrastructure and facilities.
- Undertake construction and maintenance tasks related to projects, such as upgrading the Junee Cave entrance (home to Australia’s deepest cave) or undertaking track work in the Eastern Arthurs; every day is different.
- Provide information, advice, and assistance to visitors.
- Undertake fire operations, including fuel management and wildfire suppression.
Based at one of Tasmania’s oldest National Parks and the gateway to Tasmania’s jewel heritage reserve, the Western Arthurs, you’ll enjoy working outdoors among a diverse landscape of cascading waterfalls, tall eucalypt forests, alpine vegetation, and glacial lakes. This is an exciting opportunity to get a foot in the door with Tasmania’s Parks and Wildlife Service and use your practical skills to play a key role in the conservation and management of this spectacular location.

Hours per fortnight
76.0 hours per fortnight (minimum 60.8 hours, by negotiation).
Desirable requirements
- A Workplace Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
- Experience in the use of plant and equipment and/or building construction and maintenance, and associated licences or certificates.
- Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management or an equivalent qualification relevant to the nature of the work to be undertaken, as provided by either a vocational education organisation or a registered and accredited training provider.
