Job description:

This position provides legal representation, advice, and assistance in Family Law and child safety matters, supports victims and children affected by family violence under Safe at Home policies, and collaborates with key service providers. It also delivers outreach services and community legal education across Tasmania’s North West region, ensuring accessible legal support and promoting safety and wellbeing for vulnerable individuals and families.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Represent clients of the Tasmania Legal Aid, including providing legal advice and having the carriage of Family Law matters and Child Safety matters.
  • Act as solicitor and counsel in the Family Law Courts (Family and Federal Circuit Court) and the Magistrates Court.
  • Participate in mediation and/or conferences including Family Dispute Resolution Conferences on behalf of Tasmania Legal Aid clients in relation to Family Law matters and Child Safety matters.
  • Appear as solicitor and counsel in the Magistrates Court and Supreme Court for victims of family violence in relation to family violence orders, including participating in mediation and/or conferences on behalf of Tasmania Legal Aid’s clients in relation to family violence matters; and to appear in family-violence related matters.
  • Perform such other professional work in the Family Law jurisdiction, Child Safety jurisdiction and the Safe at Home practice, as may be directed from time to time.

Essential Requirements

  • Admitted as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the relevant Federal Courts.
  • A Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.

  • Current Driver's Licence
