Job description:

The work you will undertake is varied and interesting. We contribute to major government activities that improve the wellbeing of Tasmanians and support the Government’s management of the State’s financial position.

The Director, Economic Policy will:

  • Lead a team providing strategic direction and high-level policy advice on economic and financial matters and relevant policy issues with budgetary or resource management implications.  
  • Provide expert advice in relation to the Government’s regulatory reform agenda and specific industry sectors. 
  • Ensure that strategic priorities are achieved and manage the Economic Policy Branch to ensure that services are produced with a high degree of professionalism.

About You

You will have a proven track record in effectively leading, managing and motivating a professional team across a diverse range of policy related issues.

You will be a motivated, capable and creative individual with sound judgement combined with strong analytical and communication skills. Your success requires the ability to lead policy research and analysis on complex issues; define and develop recommendations; clearly articulate difficult technical issues to stakeholders; and demonstrate leadership and initiative in a team environment.

About the Branch

As part of the Economic and Financial Policy Division, the Economic and Policy Branch forecasts key Tasmanian economic measures; monitors trends in the global, national and Tasmanian economy; undertakes detailed economic analysis of potential economic developments and Government industry assistance proposals; and provides economic policy advice to the Government. The Branch also analyses and advises on regulatory and legislative reform proposals.

Period of Appointment

Appointment to the role is on a fixed term five (5) year basis.

Desirable Requirements

Completion of relevant tertiary or industry qualifications and/or professional affiliation is highly desirable but not essential.
