Job description:

As a Child Safety Officer, you’ll work with children, young people and families to strengthen safety, stability and support through a collaborative care team approach.

Make a Real Difference Where It Matters Most – Join Us as a Child Safety Officer

About Us

The Child Safety Service works collaboratively to strengthen family capacity, provide care and safety to children, and ensure their ongoing stability and development. Our child-centred approach is at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role

As a Child Safety Officer, you’ll be at the heart of one of the most important roles in our community – protecting children and young people from harm and helping families build safer, stronger futures. We have opportunities available across both Child Safety and Out of Home Care, giving you the chance to contribute where your strengths and passion align.

Based in the stunning North West of Tasmania, you’ll join a dedicated team making a lasting difference every single day. Whether you are supporting children and young people through statutory casework or working alongside carers and service partners to create safe, nurturing placements, your work will directly shape brighter futures for some of Tasmania’s most vulnerable children.

What we are Looking For

We’re looking for dedicated individuals who bring:

  • A genuine passion for working with children, young people, and their families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles, remain calm, and manage conflict.
  • The ability to build relationships with stakeholders, families, and young people, both in person and over the phone.
  • A commitment to self-care, continuous learning, and professional reflection.
  • Individual resilience, emotional intelligence, and a high level of integrity.
  • High empathy and the ability to set and maintain professional boundaries.

 What we are Offering

A career that matters: Be part of a team making a tangible impact in children’s lives.

  • A career with purpose – Join a team dedicated to creating safer, brighter futures for Tasmanian children, families and communities.
  • Relocation support – Eligible applicants may receive financial assistance to relocate to the stunning North West of Tasmania — a region known for its natural beauty, lifestyle and community.
  • Flexible working options – We support balance. Talk to us about flexible arrangements that help you thrive at work and at home.
  • Professional development from day one – Benefit from comprehensive Beginning Practice training, ongoing supervision, and clear pathways for career progression within DECYP.
  • A supportive and connected workplace – Work within a team that values your wellbeing, offers access to employee assistance programs, and prioritises a positive, inclusive culture.
  • Commitment to child safety – DECYP is a child-safe organisation. We uphold the highest standards of safety, integrity and accountability in all that we do.

Condition of Employment

  • Salary: $73,834 to $111,364 pro rata per annum + 12% Superannuation
  • Classification: Allied Health Professional Level 1-2
  • Award/Agreement: Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement
