Job description:

Lead and supervise the Prisoner Activities Coordination Unit at Risdon Prison. In this crucial role, you'll manage and deliver all prisoner activities, ensuring access to work, programs, and education, while also overseeing the Visitor Reception Centre and coordinating virtual visits. We're looking for a strong leader with proven people management and policy development skills to optimize the through care model within a complex institutional environment

Details of Appointment

Benefits

Salary of $109,099 to 123,395 pa. Starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Sector Union Wages Agreement.

Working Environment

Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale inThe Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). 

Duties

  • Provide leadership, supervision, support and direction for the Activities Coordination Unit (ACU), Visitor Reception Centre (VRC), and State‑wide Property (SWP), ensuring high‑quality service delivery.
  • Lead the optimisation and delivery of the through‑care model and core day activities by managing the scheduling of all prisoner programs, work, and education opportunities, ensuring these activities effectively meet the needs of the current and growing prisoner population within the TPS.
  • Lead and supervise the framework for the payment of prisoner allowances within the TPS, ensuring fairness, transparency and consistency across all facilities.
  • Manage the service delivery of the Visitor Reception Centre that includes all southern facilities ensuring TPS service requirements are being met.
  • Lead the development and implementation of systems for cataloguing prisoner property, ensuring practices align with best‑practice loss‑prevention standards.
  • Monitor and provide reports, briefs and correspondence on your areas of responsibility.
  • Provide oversight to the administration functions across the TPS as required.
  • Support and undertake stakeholder engagement as required.
  • Manage effective financial, physical and human resources of the ACU, VRC, SWP and ensuring a high standard of accountability and performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to the creation and consultation of relevant policies and maintain existing relevant policies, Director Standing Orders and procedures, particularly as it relates to new services being implemented.
  • Manage virtual technology for prisoners to undertake visits online, and provide the necessary support to facilities, families and prisoners in respect to this.
