Job description:
The position leads the Department’s strategic asset planning and asset management improvement functions. The role provides leadership to a team responsible for the development of long-term asset strategies, frameworks, and associated analysis. It delivers high-quality strategic advice, oversees asset management systems and data integrity, and supports evidence-based capital investment decisions. The position works collaboratively across the Department to uplift asset management capability and ensure that long-term infrastructure planning supports service delivery, operational resilience, and future investment needs.

Duties
- Lead the development, implementation and periodic review of the Department’s Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP).
- Lead development of the Department’s long-term Infrastructure Strategy, ensuring robust analysis of service demand, asset condition, risk and future investment requirements.
- Oversee and contribute to the development of long-term strategic infrastructure plans and supporting business cases in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Lead the development and implementation of a capital prioritisation tool and framework to ensure consistent, transparent and evidence-based capital investment decisions across the Department.
- Manage and maintain the Department’s Asset Management Information System (AMIS), ensuring data quality, integrity and effective utilisation across the organisation.
- Oversee ongoing implementation and review of the Asset Management Improvement Plan, supporting uplift in asset management maturity and adoption of best-practice methodologies.
- Provide timely, evidence-based advice to governance bodies, including preparation of briefing materials and coordination of follow-up actions arising from committee decisions.
- Prepare and contribute to Departmental budget submissions, infrastructure investment proposals and Strategic Infrastructure Investment Review Process (SIIRP) submissions.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment between infrastructure planning, service delivery needs and project implementation, and to promote best-practice asset management.
- Contribute to and lead aspects of post-commissioning reviews and evaluations to support learning and continuous improvement across the asset lifecycle.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve asset planning processes, tools and practices across the Department.
Desirable Requirements
- Qualifications in asset management, project management, engineering, business, public policy or related fields.
- Knowledge of ISO 55000 or contemporary asset management standards.
