Job description:

Senior Manager, Performance Audit – an unexpected next step in your career. You do not have to be an accountant to lead this type of auditing. Here’s your chance to join an independent, respected and influential organisation focused on improving the performance of, and the public’s trust in, the public sector.

You do not need to be an accountant to lead this type of auditing.

This is an opportunity to join an independent, respected and influential organisation focused on improving public sector performance and strengthening public trust.

At Audit Tasmania, our role is to provide assurance to Parliament and the Tasmanian community about how well public sector entities are performing. As part of Tasmania’s integrity system, performance audits get to the heart of issues that matter to Parliament and to Tasmanians—examining whether programs and services are delivering value, achieving their objectives, and serving the public effectively.

You can learn more about our current priorities and upcoming audits by reading the Auditor-General’s Annual Plan 2025–26, available on our website. (Auditor-General's Annual Plan 2025-26 - Audit Tasmania).

We have an ongoing vacancy for a Senior Manager, Performance Audit and are also establishing a merit list for upcoming vacancies. In this role you’ll be leading small teams on performance audits on the Auditor-General’s behalf. From day-to-day you could find yourself carrying out fieldwork in different parts of the State, meeting with people from a wide range of organisations, from frontline public servants to politicians, or briefing parliamentary committees. It’s a challenging role full of variety that gives you a unique view of the public sector in Tasmania.

For the successful candidate we will provide the tools for you to excel in this role including training and networking with peers from across Australasia. It’s an excellent extension to your career.

If this sounds like the job for you, we’d love to hear from you, especially if you have experience in:

  • Leading small teams and project managing complex work on research or evaluation projects in the public sector
  • Coordinating the analysis of financial or other data, including qualitative analysis (e-discovery)
  • Developing public policy
  • Leading or contributing to state government reviews or inquiries.
