Hellyer College has a dedicated team of highly skilled teachers and specialist staff who support students in both academic and vocational pathways. The college also provides a strong student support team, including a nurse, youth worker, psychologist, social worker, chaplain, careers advisor, and course counsellors, creating a safe, supportive, and caring learning environment for young adults.
About the Role
The Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching programs, assessing student progress, and supporting positive learning outcomes. The role also provides leadership within the school by assisting the Principal with curriculum development, staff mentoring, resource management, student wellbeing, and school improvement initiatives.
ASTs lead both classroom and non-classroom activities, support the professional development of teachers and pre-service teachers, engage with parents and the community, and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment aligned with the Department’s values of Connection, Courage, Growth, Respect, and Responsibility.

We are looking for
Essential
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) with a registration Status – Employment
- A registered teacher with full registration within the meaning of the Teachers Registration Act 2000.
- Qualifications as established by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award, 2005.
Desirable
- Four years or more training as defined in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award 2005.
