Job description:

The Field Officer will implement field centre operational plans and maintain field centre infrastructure and facilities.

About the role

As Field Officer, you will work across the southeast coast of Tasmania stretching from Swansea to Marion Bay and Whitefoord to Nugent, including Maria Island National Park and the Darlington Convict World Heritage Area.

In this varied and hands-on role, you will contribute to the delivery of works programs and projects, undertake fire management activities, implement conservation programs, facilitate volunteer programs, and provide information and support to visitors.

You will carry out works to maintain field centre reserves, infrastructure and facilities across coastal, offshore island, forested and marine reserves rich in natural and cultural values.

This is a permanent position working 76.00 hours per fortnight (60.80 by negotiation) based at the Maria Island/Triabunna Field Centre.

Our ideal candidate

  • Trade certificate and experience in the construction and maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, or recreation facilities, including heritage sites.
  • Skills in the safe use and maintenance of machinery, plant, and equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in fire suppression operations.
  • Strong communication, organisational skills, and the ability to mentor and supervise employees and volunteers.
  • Enjoys working outdoors, undertaking physical work, and being a part of a team.
