About the role

The Section Head, Environment Policy and Projects provides strategic leadership for environmental policy, legislation and regulatory reform across the Environment Strategic Business Unit.

In this role you will:

• Lead, develop and support a high-performing team to deliver strategic environmental policy and legislative outcomes.
• Provide strategic advice to Government, senior leaders and stakeholders on complex environmental and natural resource management issues.
• Shape and oversee the development of environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and strategic policy initiatives.
• Build effective partnerships and influence outcomes across government, industry and the community.
• Drive high-quality research, analysis and advice to support evidence-based decision making.

This is a permanent full-time position (75.3 hours per fortnight) with flexible part-time arrangements available by negotiation (minimum 58.8 hours per fortnight), based in Hobart.

Our ideal candidate has

• Demonstrated success leading and supporting multidisciplinary teams, managing resources effectively and delivering complex work programs and organisational priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Significant experience leading complex policy, legislative or regulatory initiatives within government or similar complex environments, while supporting and guiding teams through change, uncertainty and competing priorities.
• Strong understanding of Tasmanian and national legislation relating to environmental management, threatened species and nature conservation and the ability to interpret and apply regulatory frameworks in a policy setting.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. Skilled at influencing outcomes, fostering partnerships and communicating complex issues clearly and credibly.
• Strong judgement and political awareness, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and navigate sensitive issues and diverse interests with diplomacy, professionalism and confidence.
