Job description:

The Principal Regulatory Services Officer leads major local government investigations and compliance. They deliver expert advice on policy, enforcement, and risk management, while driving regulatory reform and drafting briefings for senior executives and the Minister.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Lead and coordinate investigations, assessments and compliance enquiries, providing guidance and support to staff involved in regulatory activities.
  • Develop, implement and maintain best-practice investigation and compliance processes, ensuring effective operations and reporting requirements are met.
  • Analyse complex issues and provide advice and recommendations to Director of Local Government, the Secretary, and the Minister for Local Government on compliance, enforcement and regulatory matters under the Local Government Act 1993 and related legislation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with senior management in councils, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders on compliance and education matters, and with the Director of Public Prosecutions and the State Litigator on matters within the responsibility of the Office.
  • Contribute to the Office's strategic planning, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers, correspondence, ministerial and cabinet submissions, and other complex written materials.
  • Perform other duties appropriate to this role and within the scope and classification of the position.

Essential Requirements

  • May not be a local government councillor, as defined by the Local Government Act 1993, at the time of commencing employment in the Office of Local Government and for the duration that employment is held.

Desirable Requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in law and/or Certificate IV in Government Investigations (Regulatory Compliance).
