Job description:

Join a small team delivering case management services and advice on a range of people management matters across the Department.

About the role

Do you thrive on managing complex employee and industrial relations matters?

As a Workplace Relations Specialist, you'll be the trusted adviser to managers across NRE Tas on its most complex people matters. You'll also play a hands-on part in our industrial work.

You will:

  • Lead complex case management across performance, conduct, grievances and investigations.
  • Advise on Award and Agreement interpretation, and support disputes before the Tasmanian Industrial Commission.
  • Contribute to enterprise bargaining and industrial negotiations.
  • Build strong relationships with employees, unions and managers.
  • Prepare high-level briefings, options papers and policy advice.

Why join us

Build real depth in industrial relations. You will work with Awards, Agreements and Commission matters, and contribute to bargaining and negotiations, as part of a team that provides advice and support on a broad range of complex and sensitive workforce matters.

You will work with diverse groups, from operational to corporate staff, providing advice to workforces with very different needs. You will have the autonomy to manage matters independently while drawing on the expertise and support of your manager and colleagues.

This is a fixed-term 12-month position working 73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 by negotiation), based in Hobart, Launceston or Devonport.

Our ideal candidate

You are an experienced IR/ER practitioner who gives clear, practical advice and handles a tough conversation well. You bring:

  • Substantial experience in industrial relations, ideally including TIC or FWC matters and enterprise agreement negotiations.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policy, legislation and industrial Awards, and the judgement to apply them.
  • Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution and written communication skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities within tight timeframes.

We offer

  • Competitive salary, 12% superannuation contribution, and salary sacrificing options.
  • Excellent leave entitlements (plus paid shutdown between Christmas and New Year).
  • Special staff benefits from nominated Health Funds and AVIS vehicle hire.
  • Access to Fitness Passport, a corporate health and fitness program providing access to over 50 gyms and pools throughout Tasmania.
  • Access to a free and confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
