Job description:

The Director Service Transformation and Change is accountable for the leadership and oversight of significant service transformation and change within Child Safety and Youth Justice Operations, including the provision of strategic advice and direction for a range of improvement initiatives.

This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities.  Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.

The child is at the centre of everything we do and the way we do it.

  • Lead service delivery teams to deliver high impact and critical transformation initiatives
  • Enable collaborative approaches to change to optimise system wide engagement
  • Critical leadership opportunity to shape strategy, performance and transformation across a changing political landscape.

About the Role

The Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is seeking an experienced and values-driven Director to lead and oversee significant service transformation and change within the Child Safety and Youth Justice Operations Portfolio (CSYJO). The role is crucial to implementing major system reforms and service improvements across child safety, out-of-home care, and youth justice services to ensure children and young people in our care are safe and cared for.

The Director will work closely with the Executive board to lead the delivery of high-quality services related to the Youth Justice Reform Blueprint and deliver on the Commission of Inquiry recommendations including the delivery of a new youth detention centre ensuring the rights of children and young people are upheld and at the forefront of decision making.

The newly created role involves strategic oversight and leadership, with a focus on strong partnerships with stakeholders and leading community engagement. The Director will drive the integration of youth services, oversee service improvement and system reform of the Tasmanian out of home care system and lead the service improvement team to build capability across the CSYJO portfolio.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced leader of strategy, performance planning and business transformation in complex organisational settings.  You will be both tactical and strategic, bringing conceptual thinkers and delivery experts together with a unified vision.  You must have a strong focus on team culture and be energised by continuous improvement opportunities and contributing to the safety and care of our children and young people.

If this opportunity peaks your interest, we would love to hear from you! Please contact Peter Whitcombe, Deputy Secretary, Child Safety and Youth Justice on 0407 559 584 or peter.whitcombe@decyp.tas.gov.au
