Job description:

The primary focus of this role is to support the implementation and embedding of the minimum schooling guarantee for reading and, where there is capacity, to include attention on strengthening numeracy practices. The role will do this through enabling school leadership staff and teaching teams to implement evidence-based, consistent and aligned strategies for the teaching of literacy and numeracy, to improve the learning outcomes for all students within the classroom. The role will support the implementation of the essential elements of the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework. This will include a focus on quality Tier 1 instruction, and processes and practices for Tiers 2 and 3.

Who We’re Looking For
An educator with:

  • Strong knowledge of literacy and numeracy instruction.
  • Experience in implementing school-wide improvement strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school leaders and teaching teams.
  • Commitment to inclusive and evidence-based education practices.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, with a focus on quality Tier 1 instruction and effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 processes.
  • Collaborating with school staff to build capability in literacy and numeracy teaching practices.
  • Providing professional guidance aligned with departmental procedures and guidelines.

Optional Teaching Component

  • This position includes the opportunity to take on a teaching load of up to 0.4FTE, allowing for a dynamic blend of strategic support and direct classroom engagement.

Period of Appointment

5 February 2026 to 17 December 2027

14 hours per fortnight

* Plus, the opportunity to take on an additional 28 hours per fortnight in a base grade teaching position.

Essential Requirements

  • The Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013 requires persons undertaking work in a regulated activity to be registered. A regulated activity is a child related service or activity defined in the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Regulations 2014. This registration must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of this may be checked at any time during employment.
    • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment).
  • A registered teacher with full registration within the meaning of the Teachers Registration Act 2000.

Desirable Requirements

  • Four years or more training as defined in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award 2005.
