About the Role

To implement and manage appropriate learning programs for students and to assess individual student progress.

The Support Teacher will:

  • Coordinate and support the development and implementation of Learning Plans for Years 7 & 8 students requiring educational adjustments.
  • Provide expert advice to classroom teachers on inclusive practices and appropriate adjustments for students with disability, in consultation with families.
  • Facilitate collaboration between specialist staff, parents, and service providers to ensure inclusive teaching aligned with curriculum requirements.
  • Deliver “at the shoulder” support and model effective teaching strategies for inclusive education.
  • Advise on medical action and transition plans as part of educational adjustments.
  • Promote inclusive pedagogy and facilitate professional learning opportunities for staff.
  • Collect and manage data to support evidence-based adjustments and outcomes.
  • Assist with NCCD and Tasmanian Educational Adjustment Funding coordination.
  • Guide teachers in maintaining records in line with departmental guidelines.

We are looking for

Essential Requirements

  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
  • A registered teacher with full registration within the meaning of the Teachers Registration Act 2000.
  • Current certificate of registration; or provisional registration; or limited authority to teach granted by the Teachers Registration Board (Tasmania) in accordance with the provisions of the Teachers Registration Act 2000. Please note that a person with a limited authority to teach can only be employed on a fixed-term basis.
  • Under the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award.
    • Classification and progression are based upon training, qualifications, and satisfactory performance.
    • Progression to Band 1 Level 13 requires an employee to have been at Band 1 Level 12 for 12 months or more and have full teacher registration as certified by the Teachers Registration Board (Tasmania).

Desirable Requirements

  • Four years or more training as defined in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award 2005
