King Island District High School is a K–12 combined school located on a truly remarkable island in Bass Strait, off the northwest coast of Tasmania. King Island District High School provides quality education for children from Birth to Year 12. Facilities at the school include a gymnasium, a heated indoor pool and an Arts Centre with state of the art sound and lighting equipment.
King Island District High School sits at the heart of our community. This year, we are engaged in several key programs that support wellbeing, engagement, and whole‑child development, including:
- The Resilience Project across K-10, which also includes staff wellbeing support
- Hands on Learning
- School Food Matters Healthy Lunch Program, feeding all students in the school, two days per week.
- Variety Club Breakfast Program, five days per week.
About the Role
To implement and manage appropriate learning programs for students and to assess individual student progress. Shape, inspire, and empower the next generation of learners by designing and delivering engaging, real‑world learning experiences.
We are seeking flexible, community‑minded, team‑oriented educators who are ready for a meaningful change and the chance to make a real impact. Areas of need include:
- Upper primary/lower secondary, with the ability to teach mathematics
- General relief teaching across primary and secondary
We are offering
- Fixed term, ASAP for 12 months
- Full-time, 70 hours per fortnight

Incentives & Benefits:

We are looking for
Essential
- Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
- A registered teacher with full registration within the meaning of the Teachers Registration Act 2000.
- Current certificate of registration; or provisional registration; or limited authority to teach granted by the Teachers Registration Board (Tasmania) in accordance with the provisions of the Teachers Registration Act 2000. Please note that a person with a limited authority to teach can only be employed on a fixed-term basis.
- Under the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award.
- Classification and progression are based upon training, qualifications, and satisfactory performance.
- Progression to Band 1 Level 13 requires an employee to have been at Band 1 Level 12 for 12 months or more and have full teacher registration as certified by the Teachers Registration Board (Tasmania).
Desirable
- Four years or more training as defined in the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award 2005
