Position Function:
Coordinates advancement efforts within the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as promotes the College of Veterinary Medicine annual fund.
Salary Grade: 14

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

75% of the time, the Advancement Coordinator will be responsible for:
Promotes the College of Veterinary Medicine annual fund working with the development team.
• Collaborates with the CVM Marketing and Communications Manager to ensure the website is updated with current advancement content, including information on giving methods and explanations of fund usage.
• Maintains active communication with annual fund donors through email blasts and personalized notes.
• Coordinates “thank you” communications.
• Aids with annual and major gift proposals and grants.
• Coordinates with CVM media specialist on social media posts recognizing donors.
Responsible for donor stewardship
• Coordinates donor communications regularly and in an ongoing manner (e.g. thank you letters, birthday cards, etc.).
• Builds rapport with donors with regular communications, both face-to-face and through additional media.
• Provides stewardship reports to donors.
• Provides regular updates to the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine on all development activities.
Handles all scholarships
• Provides gift agreements to the Office of Admissions and Student Success and CVM Financial Officer.
• Provides fund availability guidance to determine which scholarships can be awarded and at what amounts.
• Creates, writes and sends student biographies to donors.
• Coordinates with the Office of Admissions and Student Success to provide information for Scholarship Committee determination of scholarship awardees.
• Follows up with students if any issues arise is awarding the scholarship.
• Serves as a liaison between the MSU Foundation and the Office of Admissions and Student Success.
• Works with development officers on new scholarship agreements.
Assist development officers with identification, solicitation and cultivation of donors and prospects
• Researches donors, prospects, submit research requests.
• Reviews gift reports.
• Provides donors giving history and background.
Oversees gift administration
• Receives gifts, allocation, completes paperwork and reports gifts.
• Provides guidance and support for gift agreements.
• Works closely with MSU Foundation staff.
Oversees special development functions for the College of Veterinary Medicine
• Works in close collaboration with the CVM senior events coordinator to lead execution of engaging special events including event conception, guest experience and composing pre- and post-event correspondence.
• Serves as the liaison to Dean's Council members, attend and present at Dean’s Council meetings, and collaborate with CVM Senior Events Coordinator on meeting logistics and coordination.
• Oversees and coordinates development displays, brochures, mailers and promotional products.
• Attends all special functions as appropriate.
25% of the time, the Advancement Coordinator will be responsible for:
Alumni Engagement
• Develops and executes strategies to enhance alumni relationships, increase college engagement, and cultivate interest in philanthropic support. This includes activities such as sharing alumni success stories, promoting alumni awards, organizing networking events, and creating other opportunities to engage and recognize alumni.
• Conducts prospect research and manage a portfolio of alumni for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual gifts using diverse engagement strategies.
• Collaborates with faculty and staff across the College to enhance and strengthen alumni engagement initiatives.
• Partners with the CVM marketing and communications team to ensure alumni engagement opportunities are effectively promoted through the website, e-newsletters, and social media channels.
• Promotes alumni involvement in institutional initiatives, such as mentorship programs, career services, and volunteer opportunities.
• Serves as the primary point of contact for alumni, engaging with them via email and in-person interactions.
• Attends alumni events and activities to foster relationships and promote ongoing engagement.
• Coordinates the Alumnus of the Year program and Alumni Fellows program, along with the Assistant Director of Development and Senior Director of Development.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support advancement and alumni relations objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with a focus in Communications-related such as Journalism, English, Public Relations or related field.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess previous development experience.
Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
Familiarity with Blackbaud CRM.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
• Strong interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications—desktop publishing capabilities preferred
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and to be a self-starter
