The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a tenure track assistant/associate/full professor position in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. The position is in the Diagnostic Laboratory Services (DLS) section within the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include teaching in the professional and residency/graduate program and participation in the pathology service. It is expected that this position will allocate approximately 50% of time to diagnostic service activities, 25% of time to teaching, and 25% of time to scholarly activity. The ideal candidate will have a passion for using diagnostic cases in teaching and scholarship. This position is expected to participate in collaborative scholarship and to provide primary mentorship to graduate students and residents. Accessions to DLS consist of necropsies and biopsies from domestic animals originating from the CVM hospital, area veterinarians, producers, and the public. All necropsies are part of the academic experience of professional students. DLS faculty have broad discretion in case workup.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a DVM or equivalent with ACVP Phase 2 board certification eligibility in anatomic pathology. A graduate degree beyond the DVM is not required but is preferred. This position will work closely with five other anatomic pathology faculty so demonstrated collegiality and teamwork is required. Excellent individual and group communication skills are required. Demonstrated interest in teaching DVM students is required. The ability to attain licensure (faculty or traditional licensure) in Mississippi is required. The DLS is a part of the AAVLD fully accredited Mississippi Veterinary Research & Diagnostic Laboratory System, which has diagnostic laboratories located at three sites in the state of Mississippi.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
